Section moves take place as arranged Lt Ashton went to S.E.C.O.[ii] HQ to obtain details of new job for C.E S.E.C.O. Arrangements then made for 4 carpenters to be attached to H.Q. S.E.C.O. till job completed. Job: Large map board 50’x27’ raised off ground, on slope. No 3 Sec to carry out a further week’s training.

Major Pennington R.E. reports to S.M.E. Ripon[?] for Coy C[…?] Course. No 2 + 3 Secs training. A

Works – 1. Water Tower Crawley. Shift work till job finished. Brickwork finished at end of day. Tank bed to be laid out 4/5.

2. Petrol Tanks. Started connecting surface paths, tops of tanks etc.

3. Blackouts. No materials yet.

4. Painting and camouflage

5. General – Cleaning up and ditching and drain repairs in hand.

Signals message from 4 LofC Tps Engrs stating this unit would commence training on 15/5/44 in present location (x/769)

Received order to move on 12/May/44 to COLLINGHAM Nr Lincoln

Works: Water tank nearly complete. Plumbing yet to be done. Petrol tanks complete being tested. Job at Reigate well in hand, should be completed by Sunday evening, 7th. One Chev Tipper taken for repair to Chelsea.

Received instructions for collecting 2 Chev tippers from Putney. Water tank complete. Job at Reigate finished 1800 hrs.

Sunday. Day of rest. Major Middleditch telephoned: - No 727 A.W. Coy would take over all extra vehicles belonging to C.E. Pool at a date to be notified later.

Plumbing at water tank well in hand. Camouflage painting of Nissen hut continuing. Lt Hill Left for COLLINGHAM on M/C.

Major Middleditch phoned: No 695 A.W. Coy would be taking over the 10 tippers on Wed, and not 727 AW Coy.

Advance party left for COLLINGHAM in 3xtonner, 0800 hrs to meet Lt Hill 1700 hrs at NEWARK. Ser Smith I/C. C.E’s pool lorries handed over to 695 A.W.Coy R.E.

Ceased works Crawley. Pioneer Coy finishing off blackouts. Water tank tested finally and result satisfactory. Tools handed back to D.C.R.E. Lt Westerman arrived back from Course 2100 hrs.

Move to COLLINGHAM commenced 0800 hrs. Train leaves Rudgwick STn 00920 hrs, arrived COLLINGHAM Stn 1845 hrs. M.T. Convoy party left 0815 hrs, arrived 1900 hrs. (170 miles)

Coy employed in billet cleaning. Stores unpacking etc.

Capt Hawey reported to C.E. Nomdist for works discussion. Major Lewis said if Coy was to work for C.E. it would have to move from Collingham. Work could not be done on day to day basis so he would ring later and let unit know details. Meanwhile Coy on training.

Training continues. Capt Hawey telephoned Leicester Welfar Office re Spr MILES left. Rear party arrived @ 1600 hrs.

P.M. received instructions to move soon as possible to Westco. Rear party to be left in present location to collect G1098 mob stores.

Main party 2 officers and 210 men left Collingham station at 1025 hrs Arrived 1600 hrs. Rear party 1 officer + 13.

Rec’d notification of Adjt 4 LofC visit on 27/5. P.I.A.T.[iv] instructor arrived. D.A.Q.M.G.[v] visited unit at 1200 hrs.

Lt Ashton arrived back with W/proofing kist (op) and [?] for M.T. Capt Hawey visited D.A.D.O.S.[vi] Preston. Arranged for R.E.M.E.[vii] armourer to zero rifles No 4 on 31/5 and 1/6.

Adjt 4 LofC visited unit discussed training and general policy.
